Adobe Experience Design (AED) is a vector-based drawing application that lets you create wireframes, prototypes, and production-ready designs for websites and apps. You can use AED to create wireframes and prototypes of your designs, and then export the designs to Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or InDesign for further refinement and production.

In this article, I’ll show you how to get started with Adobe Experience Design. I’ll cover how to create a new document, add and edit shapes, create and manage layers, and export your designs.

Creating a New Document

To create a new document in Adobe Experience Design, go to File > New. The New Document window will open.

In the New Document window, set the Width and Height of your document to 800px and 600px, respectively. The Pixel Art preset should be selected, and the Color Mode should be set to RGB. Click Create.

The new document will open in the AED interface.

Adding and Editing Shapes

To add a shape to your document, click the Shape tool in the toolbar, or press F7.

The Shape tool will open the Shape panel. In the Shape panel, select the desired shape from the list.

The selected shape will be added to your document. To edit the shape, click and drag the points on the shape.

You can also change the shape of a shape by selecting it and then going to Edit > Change Shape.

In the Change Shape window, select the desired shape from the list. Click OK.

The shape will be changed to the selected shape.

Creating and Managing Layers

Layers are used to organize and control the visibility of objects in a document. To create a new layer, go to Layer > New > Layer.

The New Layer window will open. Enter a name for the layer, and then click OK.

The layer will be created. To add an object to the layer, select the layer and then click the Add (+) button in the Layers panel.

The object will be added to the layer. To move the object to a different layer, select the object and then click the Move to Layer (arrowhead) button in the Layers panel.

The object will be moved to the selected layer.

To hide or show the contents of a layer, select the layer and then use the Eye icon in the Layers panel.

The Eye icon will change to show the visibility of the layer.

Exporting Your Designs

To export your document to a different format, go to File > Export.

The Export window will open. In the Export window, select the desired format from the list.

The selected format will be exported to the specified location.
